Why I Built Bolstie
Before I built Bolstie, I bought more travel pillows than I'd like to admit.
Every time I had a long flight coming up, I'd tell myself,
"Maybe this one will finally let me sleep."
It never did.
Some pushed my head forward.
Some were too short.
Some were so bulky that I hated carrying them through the airport.
Eventually, they all ended up in a closet.
After enough disappointing flights, I stopped waiting for someone else to make the travel pillow I wanted.
So I decided to build it myself.
I wasn't trying to reinvent travel pillows.
I just wanted one that worked for the way I naturally sleep.
Most Travel Pillows Weren't Built for Side Sleepers
I'm a side sleeper.
So every time I tried sleeping with a traditional U-shaped pillow, my head would eventually fall to the side and my neck ended up doing all the work.
That's when I realized I wasn't the problem.
The pillow was.
Most travel pillows aren't really designed for people who sleep on their side.
They're designed to keep your head sitting upright.
So I designed Bolstie differently.
Instead of wrapping around your neck, it rests diagonally across your body. Your shoulder and arm help support your head, so there's much less strain on your neck.
I built it for myself first.
The nice surprise was discovering it helped other side sleepers too.

It Doesn't Waste Space in Your Carry-On
This was probably my biggest frustration.
Traditional travel pillows are bulky.
You clip them to your backpack.
Carry them through the airport.
Or give up valuable space inside your carry-on.
I got tired of doing all three.
So I made Bolstie hollow.
Instead of carrying foam around, you fill it with the clothes you're already packing.
Your hoodie.
A sweater.
A few T-shirts.
Whatever soft clothes you're already bringing become the filling.
You're already packing them anyway.
Bolstie just puts them to work.
One thing I never expected was how many customers told me it helped them fit a little more into their carry-on.
Some have even told me it saved them from checking an extra bag.

Let's be honest.
Airplanes aren't exactly the cleanest places.
After a long flight, I wanted a pillow I could actually wash.

No foam inserts.
No spot cleaning.
No wondering what's been sitting against your face since your last trip.
Wash it, let it dry, and it's ready for your next flight.
What Travelers Have Told Me
One of my favorite parts of building Bolstie has been hearing how people use it.
Some tell me it's the first travel pillow that's comfortable enough for side sleeping.
Others love that it doubles as extra packing space.
One traveler packed workout clothes inside it for a work trip because they couldn't fit them in their carry-on.
A new mom even told me she uses it to carry diapers and extra baby clothes while traveling.
I honestly never imagined some of these uses.
It's been fun watching people make Bolstie their own.
